Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the new Pope, taking the name Leo XIV. He is the first American to be elected Pope and is the 267th successor to Saint Peter. The election took place on May 8, 2025, during the second day of the conclave. He is known for his missionary work in Peru and his focus on social justice and labor rights
