Sacred hymns Consisting of fifti select psalms of David

The Psalms of David represent an esteemed anthology of 150 literary works that convey themes of reverence, supplication, and mourning, as recorded in both Hebrew and Christian sacred scriptures. Originally written in Hebrew, these compositions encapsulate the profound emotional and spiritual experiences of the authors.

During the medieval period, it was commonly accepted within Christian tradition that King David was the principal author of the Psalms. The texts, along with their accompanying illustrations, were often associated with the narrative of David’s transformation from a shepherd and sinner to a king divinely appointed.

This connection served as a source of inspiration for medieval Christians to model their own paths toward redemption, spiritual fulfillment, and salvation after that of David. The author presents this narrative from the perspective of an individual warrior, documenting the miraculous interventions of God that repeatedly rescued him from situations that should have resulted in inevitable disaster.

The Psalms can be understood as the contemplative writings of an individual warrior who documents the remarkable acts of divine intervention, highlighting instances where he was consistently delivered from seemingly insurmountable challenges. These writings reflect David’s deep appreciation for the numerous situations in which he was personally safeguarded from considerable peril and the imminent threat of death.
