His Excellency Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, the Papal Nuncio, celebrated a liturgical service at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne on 30th September 2025, The Feast Day of St Jerome, A Doctor of Church.

Jerome (c. 342–347 – September 30, 420), also known as Jerome of Stridon, was an early Christian priest, confessor, theologian, translator, and historian.
He is most notable for his translation of the Bible into Latin, known as the Vulgate, as well as his comprehensive commentaries on the entire Bible.

In his translation efforts, Jerome aimed to produce a version of the Old Testament based on Hebrew texts, differing from previous Latin translations that relied on the Septuagint. His body of work is extensive, including biblical writings as well as polemical and historical essays, all approached from a theological perspective.
