The Exaltation of the Holy Cross St Mary’s RC Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne September 14 2025

Today we observe a significant annual celebration occurring on September 14th, which coincides with a Sunday only when that date falls on the Sabbath. According to Christian tradition, the True Cross was discovered in 326 AD during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem by St. Helena, mother of Roman Emperor Constantine. Subsequently, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was constructed at the site of this discovery. This day provides an opportunity for reflection on the Cross of Christ and the sacrifice made by Our Lord and Saviour to redeem humanity from sin.
